Bank statement to QIF

Upload a PDF or CSV statement and download a QIF file that Quicken and other QIF-reading tools can import. One entry per transaction, in the order the statement prints them.

Upload a file

What the QIF file contains

  • One entry per transaction, in statement order
  • Date, payee, and amount in the fields QIF readers expect
  • No category invented for you — the file imports cleanly and you set categories in Quicken
  • A file you import directly, not a spreadsheet to tidy first

How to convert

  1. Upload your statement

Drop in the PDF or CSV you downloaded from your bank.

  2. Choose QIF

Leave the output format on QIF — it is preselected on this page.

  3. Import the file

Bring the .qif into Quicken through its file import.

Why this is more accurate than OCR

OCR reads a statement by position on the page. When a description wraps onto a second line, or the debit and credit columns sit close together, a positional parser attaches the wrong text to the wrong number.

Read by position

02/03 DIRECT DEBIT 4471
       ACME INSURANCE LTD 120.00
04/03 CARD PAYMENT
       NORTHGATE MARKET -38.40

The wrapped line becomes a second transaction, and the amount lands on the wrong row.

Read as content

02/03 DIRECT DEBIT 4471 ACME INSURANCE LTD 120.00
04/03 CARD PAYMENT NORTHGATE MARKET -38.40

One row per transaction, the description kept whole, the amount in the amount column.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a bank statement to QIF?

Upload the PDF or CSV from your bank above, keep QIF as the output format, and download the .qif file. No account and nothing to install.

What is a QIF file?

QIF (Quicken Interchange Format) is a plain-text format for moving transactions between finance programs. It stores dates, payees, and amounts as tagged lines.

Can I convert a PDF bank statement to QIF?

Yes. A PDF statement is the most common input; upload it, pick QIF, and download the file.

Does the file include categories?

No. Categories are guessed wrong more often than not, and a wrong category is harder to fix than an empty one, so they are left for you to set in Quicken.

Is my statement kept after conversion?

No. The file is used only to produce your converted copy and is deleted right after.

Do I need an account?

No. The converter works without signing up.
